Child Education Sponsorship

Child education sponsorship empowers children, their families, and communities to help break the cycle of poverty. By sponsoring a child’s education at a good quality school, you provide bright kids with an opportunity to succeed in life.

This is how your sponsorship changes a child's life:

A Good School

Access to a good, safe, and clean school with strong academics, sports, extracurricular activities, and an emphasis on social justice teaching. We provide the children with school uniforms, books, school supplies and bus transportation to and from school.

Tutoring Support

Twice a week, children come to the Children’s Center, where they receive not only tutoring, but get to play board games, do arts & crafts, and borrow books from our small library. We also plan special art projects and outings like seeing live theatre or visiting the zoo.

Health Care

A medical team from North America comes every year to give the kids routine check-ups, dental care, and healthcare education. During the rest of the year, we cover any medicine, testing or treatment that is not available at the local health clinic.

Extracurricular Activities

Whether a child wants to join the soccer team at school, or take folkloric dance classes, or learn to swim, we make sure the funds are there for whatever is needed.

Family Facilitators

Our family facilitators give individual support to each family entrusted to their care. During the Pandemic, family visits have been largely replaced by calls and have provided much-needed comfort to many in this time of stress.

Nutritious Food

Kids who arrive at the center for morning tutoring can always find fresh fruit and snacks at the kitchen table. Those who stay for lunch always have a home-cooked meal and salad. Due to the pandemic, we are now feeding families that need support instead, until Covid 19 recedes and the economy rebounds.

Child sponsors receive regular updates on their sponsored child’s progress and general well-being.  We welcome all individual or group sponsors.

$2100/Annually (or $175 per month)

Partner with the community

We collaborate with the local community. We hold meetings in community pre-schools in poor neighborhoods to inform parents what the program can offer their children. Parents then make the decision about whether to apply.

Find children who love to learn

A child’s acceptance into the program is based equally upon their curiosity about the world around them, the excitement they show in learning, and the commitment of their parents.

Inspire children and their parents

Children and their parents are supported and encouraged every step of the way, so they believe that they will succeed. Not only do the children attend a good school, but they also get excellent tutoring support and are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities to develop their own talents and gifts.

Celebrate progress

Education is a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty. Your financial support gives children the best start in life and the foundation for their future success. With a good education, they can better contribute and give back to their communities.

University Sponsorship

They’ve done the work! They’ve graduated from high school! Now what? Many of our kids are the first in their families to graduate high school, let alone go on to university! While funding for public elementary and secondary education is extremely poor, public universities are generally well-supported institutions. So, if a student makes it this far, we’re going to see them through. Read about some of our students’ success stories.

The annual cost for each student varies depending on the university, the course of study and the family’s economic circumstances so we have broken things down into 3 distinct levels of support as follows:

Full Private University

This gold level support provides access to a private university for our neediest students who wish to study disciplines not available in public universities. It includes all expenses at a   private university in the city of Managua, including fees, books and materials, transportation costs, meal support, tech and online support.

Full Public University

This is our silver-plated level for our neediest students whose areas of study are offered at a public university. It includes all public university fees, books and materials, transportation costs, meal support, tech and online support.

Partial Public University

This contribution eases the financial burden on families who are able to help their child with expenses but would find it very difficult to meet all expenses. This level may include assistance with transportation, meal support, books, and tech, and online support, depending on the individual student’s needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, we will forward your letter to your child’s facilitator to print and share with your sponsored child. We do not have a formal letter-exchange program as this is very costly to do. However, we are very happy to receive and translate any letters that you may occasionally write. You can send your letters to
For the sake of other children in the program, who may not have a sponsor, we do not encourage gifts to individual children. It can be hurtful and create feelings of jealousy, which would be the exact opposite of your intention! What we encourage instead is a special gift that can bring joy to more than one child.
Yes. If your child has an urgent medical need or is going off to college and in need of a decent computer, we will let you know. Also, if you are coming to Nicaragua on an Immersion Trip or for any other reason, you will be able to meet your sponsored child and can bring a small gift at that time.
Special gifts are those that benefit not only your sponsored child, but a whole group of kids. Here are some of the things our donors have done or can do: books for our library at the Children’s Center – books will be purchased locally and be inscribed with your name and date of donation if you wish; an excursion to the zoo or nature reserve for group of children – this would include bus rental and cost of admission at the Zoológico Nacional de Nicaragua or the Mombacho Volcano Nature Reserve; a trip downtown Managua to see live theatre – perhaps a puppet show, a play or concert; a pizza party at our Children’s Centre, to celebrate High School graduation for example; or, a new or refurbished computer for our Children’s Center, purchased locally. Special gifts not only enrich and bring joy to the kids, they also contribute to supporting the local economy which is so important in a developing country.
No. We ask for your commitment for one year, but we value and appreciate any length of your sponsorship, understanding that a long-term commitment isn’t always easy.
No, you can choose your own payment schedule. Some people pay annually, some prefer to pay quarterly, and some monthly.
Don’t worry. All you’ve done has been gratefully received and your child will not lose her or his scholarship because of it.
